Narrative Audio Producer

The Atlantic has, for more than 160 years, advanced ideas that matter and sparked global conversation on the most important issues of our time. We aim to bring clarity and original thinking to questions of consequence, on topics ranging from politics, the economy, and global affairs to technology, science, and culture. As the third-longest-running magazine in America, we find ourselves at a remarkable moment: one of both continuation and transformation, of upholding our legacy while continuously reinventing ourselves for the future.

We’re looking for an experienced narrative audio producer to join our team. This role will be focused on developing long-form narrative podcast series in collaboration with Atlantic journalists. The person we have in mind has creative ideas for feature-length audio journalism and cares deeply about making work that combines great storytelling and big ideas.

Our ideal candidate is a pro at all the basics: producing an engaging, story-driven interview, prepping and tracking hosts, reporting and recording in the field, cutting tape, and assembling sessions. This person should also have high-level experience structuring stories, shaping and editing scripts, and executing a clear vision for a show.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide high-level direction on podcast, series, and episode concepts.
  • Collaborate with Atlantic journalists to select and shape concepts that work well for audio.
  • Coach reporters through interviewing, writing, and tracking for audio.
  • Structure engaging stories, from the interview process through the editing process.
  • Work on all aspects of audio production as necessary, including recording, cutting tape, assembling, and publication.

Qualifications for you to have:

  • 5+ years producing radio or podcasts
  • Experience reporting for audio
  • Experience with script-writing, editing, and shaping narrative stories
  • An understanding of how to express ideas through character, emotion, and story
  • Comfort working in ProTools

Across Atlantic Media, generally, the firm looks for two “pillar gifts” in you, and everyone else.  In all of us, these are more aspirational than actual, but they are central in our intentions:

  1. Force of Intellect – a discipline and rigor of thought as manifested, often, in remarkable academic performance and, later, success in a professional environment.
  2. Spirit of Generosity – a natural disposition towards service and selfless conduct.

Atlantic Media is an EOE of Minorities/Women/Vets/Disability.
