The Atlantic is seeking a Pentagon reporter with extensive experience covering the U.S. military in Washington and abroad. The ideal candidate for this staff writer position must be able to report deeply, write with flair and precision, and find stories that resonate with The Atlantic’s readers about defense policy, the tactics and strategy of global conflict, and military power in Washington as played out at the Pentagon, on Capitol Hill, in the executive-branch agencies, and beyond.
This reporter must embrace productivity across the digital media, where speed and quality are crucial. This person must also possess a hunger to break news and conceptual scoops. At the same time, the ideal candidate should excel at long-form magazine prose. Finally, this reporter must be collegial and able to work in a cooperative, trusting way with fellow reporters and editors. This position is based in Washington, D.C.
