Executive Editor, Nextgov

Job Description
Nextgov seeks an experienced, digital-savvy executive editor to oversee its editorial operations. We’re looking for someone to lead our efforts to provide smart, indispensable, accessible and timely content on innovative technologies and their impact on government.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Setting the strategic direction for Nextgov’s coverage, digital products and events. Also responsible for overseeing  special editorial projects and development of digital tools, from ebooks to apps, to other brand extensions, such as social media.
  • Overseeing Nextgov’s editorial staff, including management retention and recruiting
  • Playing a leadership role in efforts to grow Nextgov’s audience across social channels, newsletters, mobile, and other platforms
  • Serving as the public face and voice of Nextgov at events, and coordinating with our events team to plan them
  • Editing daily news stories
  • Soliciting and editing articles from external contributors
  • Writing occasional news articles and analysis pieces

 

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:

  • 5+ years of professional journalistic experience as an editor and/or writer, preferably in the area of information technology
  • Strong editing, writing and analytical skills and high attention to detail
  • Experience in digital publishing and social media
  • Ability to direct the work of a team of reporters, editors, web producers and outside contributors in a collaborative work environment
  • Strong connections in the federal information technology community
  • A positive, team-oriented, good-natured and energetic attitude
