Quartz is expanding its lifestyle coverage and is seeking an editor to help manage that growth, and play a pivotal role in its development.
The lifestyle editor will be someone who is deeply conversant with the richness and variety of global lifestyles, who is immersed in the social conversation and has strong instincts for the stories that audiences find engaging. You’re as familiar with the Silver Lake shaman and Brooklyn lumberjack as the Tokyo Harajuku girl, and bring bracing creativity to your coverage of travel, fashion, food, culture, and wellness. You are at your best brainstorming ideas, working with writers to hone theirs, identifying unique angles, and tying it all together in a visually compelling package.
This editor works closely with the author of our beloved Quartzy email newsletter, Jenni Avins, and will manage two or three reporters directly. You will also collaborate with other writers on the culture team, as well as across the newsroom.
The ideal candidate has prior editing experience, with a focus on service or consumer-related topics. This person will view the internet as a crucial appendage, and see Instagram and Pinterest as places to engage, not just observe. You should feel comfortable with a range of formats, including short posts, photos, videos and charts, and letting the story guide you on the best way to tell it. International experience and languages are a plus.
To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume, and five links to relevant work. The links matter most.
