CityLab sees cities as a lens on who we are and where we are going; these are the places where the biggest problems facing society are being met, and where the decisions that shape our future are being made.  We focus on the intersection of ideas; where city policy meets urban life. Founded in 2011, CityLab is a media platform for a rising global class of engaged urbanists who are making the choices for guiding the future of urban design, technology, work, transportation, culture, livability and equity. CityLab, a sister site to The Atlantic, focuses on how cities will thrive (or decline) in the 21st century, as well as how are lives are evolving in our urban homes. Our audience is comprised of a rising global class of engaged urbanists who are making the choices about the future of urban design, technology, work, transportation, culture, livability and equity. And we produce the finest urban journalism on the planet.

 

The Editor will be responsible for crafting a clear editorial vision that serves our core audience while attracting new audiences who are searching for a source of opinion, commentary, and analysis on the future of cities and how we live in them.

Working closely with the General Manager, the Editor will be instrumental in the execution of CityLab’s strategic growth plans. The ideal candidate will possess an entrepreneurial sensibility and enforce high journalistic standards.

  • Excellence in writing and editing;
  • Ability to articulate a clear editorial vision for CityLab;
  • Creativity, agility, and energy in executing editorial programs that build loyalty and depth in an ever-shifting digital media environment;
  • Experience identifying talent, building, mentoring and managing a team;
  • Knowledge of working closely with business teams and maintaining editorial firewalls and standards;
  • Demonstrated passion and knowledge for urban issues and life is a plus.
